How to Enable and Use Clipboard History on Windows 10
If you have updated your machine to the latest version of Windows 10 aka Windows 10 v1809 or the October 2018 Update, you should get a new feature called Clipboard History, which allows you to synchronize your clipboard across multiple devices running the same account. In other words, if you have copied text on a computer and you want to get it on another Windows 10 computer, you can do so with the help of this simple functionality. It can gather as many last copied texts as you want. However, the disadvantage is you cannot use it to find a copied image or any other multimedia file. Being said that, you can use it only for text and nothing else.
There are two different ways to use it on your machine. First, you can only enable the Clipboard History feature on your Windows 10 computer. Second, you can activate the synchronization. If you enable that, it will start sending clipboard texts to all the other devices within moments.
How to enable Clipboard History on Windows 10 computer?
This is very easy and not much time consuming as well. Since this option is included in the Windows 10, there is no need to install any third-party software or anything else to get it on your computer. Coming to the main point, if you want to enable it, open Windows 10 Settings. You can press Win + I button together and go to System > Clipboard. On your right-hand side, you should find some options like these:
If you toggle the button, you can enable it on your machine. However, it doesn’t enable the synchronization. For that, you must have to use Microsoft account in your computer. In other words, if you are using Local Account, this is the time when you need to opt for a Microsoft account. Therefore, click the “Sign in” button under “Sync across devices”. You will be redirected to the “Accounts” page. From here, you need to click the “Sign in with a Microsoft account instead” button, enter valid login credentials to switch to Microsoft account.
Now come back, and you should find two options called
- Automatically sync text that I copy
- Never automatically sync text that I copy
You can choose any option you want.
How to use Clipboard History on Windows 10?
This is very easy to use. You can copy everything as usual. That means, you can use Ctrl + C to copy and Ctrl + V to paste. However, if you press Win + V, you can check your clipboard history.
How to clear Clipboard History?
For that, you need to open the Clipboard page in Windows 10 Settings panel. In this page, you would get an option called “Clear” under “Clear clipboard data”. Click this button to remove everything from your cloud clipboard. Once deleted, you cannot access them from any other devices.
Cloud clipboard history not working on Windows 10
There are only two reasons, why you are not getting clipboard history feature on your Windows computer or this is not working properly. First, you should have Windows 10 October Update or v1809. The second solution is you need to check some Registry files. Being said that, open Registry Editor. You can press Win + R, type “regedit” and hit the Enter button.
Following that, navigate to this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System
On this page, you must have these three keys-
- EnableActivityFeed
- PublishUserActivities
- UploadUserActivities
If you do not have them, create DWORD (32-bit) Value and set the name as mentioned above. Make sure; you have set the value to 1.
Now restart your computer and check whether it is working or not.
